Our Favorite Easy Passover Recipes

Passover is a time filled with tradition, family gatherings, and, despite what some may say, delicious food (we’ll have the Shmurah vs. Factory-made Matzah debate some other time).

What follows below are some of our favorite simple, easy Passover recipes. From traditional starters to hearty mains and decadent desserts, these crowd-pleasers are simple, satisfying, and full of flavor.

Charoset

Classic Charoset Recipes 

No seder table is complete without Charoset. A seder plate staple, this simple, sweet spread symbolizes the mortar used by the Israelites in Egypt and is beloved by kids and adults alike (but Zaide’s going to tell you you’re using too much).

Pro Tip: Prepare your charoset a day in advance so the flavors develop further.

Ashkenazi Style Charoset

Ingredients:

  • 2 large apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup sweet red wine (or grape juice for a non-alcoholic version)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix until well blended.
  2. Adjust sweetness and texture as desired.
  3. Chill before serving.

Sephardi Style Charoset

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pitted dates
  • 1/2 cup dried figs
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds or walnuts
  • 1/4 cup sweet red wine or grape juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine dates, figs, raisins, and a splash of water.
  2. Simmer over low heat for 10–15 minutes until the fruit is soft.
  3. Transfer to a food processor with nuts, wine, and spices.
  4. Blend into a thick paste, adding more water or wine as needed.
  5. Let cool and serve.
Lemon Herb Roast Chicken

Two Tried-and-True Passover Chicken Recipes

Whether it’s for Shabbat Chol Hamoed or for the Seder meal, we have never once had leftovers when we make this chicken. They have become our go-to favorites, and the best part is, they’re low-effort recipes that give off high-effort. 

Lemon Herb Roast Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4 lbs)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix olive oil, lemon juice, herbs, and garlic in a bowl.
  3. Rub mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin.
  4. Roast for 1 hour 20 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. Let rest before carving.

Herb & Garlic Chicken Thighs

Ingredients:

  • 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix olive oil, garlic, paprika, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat chicken thighs evenly with the mixture and place in a baking dish.
  4. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until cooked through.
Garlic Roasted Potatoes

Crowd-pleasing Passover Side Dishes

Sometimes the side dishes steal the show. So when you’re whipping up one of our favorites, just be ready for them to upstage what your mother-in-law prepared. 

Garlic Roasted Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs baby potatoes, halved
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, pepper, and fresh parsley to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Toss potatoes with olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roast for 35–40 minutes, tossing halfway.
  4. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Matzo Farfel Kugel

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups matzo farfel
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Sauté onion in oil until soft.
  3. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and pour into greased baking dish.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes until golden and crispy on top.
Flourless Chocolate Cake

End on a High Note with these Passover Dessert Recipes

Let’s talk sweets! People tend to worry about desserts and baked goods over Passover. That’s totally fair. After all, it is hard to navigate baking without flour. But these dessert recipes are a simple, satisfying, sweet ending to any Passover meal.

Flourless Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Melt butter and chocolate together in a saucepan.
  3. Stir in sugar, salt, and vanilla.
  4. Whisk in eggs, then cocoa powder.
  5. Pour into greased 8-inch round pan and bake 25 minutes.

Almond Macaroons

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups finely ground almonds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Mix all ingredients until combined.
  3. Drop spoonfuls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden.
